Unique and truly special: one-of-a-kind pieces by upcycling artists

We invited four Upcycling Artists to create new works of art from our Broken Pieces – products that were rejected during the production process due to minor flaws – and give our products a new life. Six veryspecial one-of-a-kind pieces were created, which are currently available in our online shop .From cool bags and elaborately dyed jeans to hot pants, there is something for everyone here. And here are the artists behind these creations.

Denim top with puff sleeves by Cristina Tata

Christina is an upcycling designer and sewing instructor who lives in Berlin. For her eponymous fashion label, she creates unique upcycled pieces by primarily repurposing second-hand clothing. She also teaches sewing and upcycling at her sewing school, "Wieder & Wider", which she founded, and focuses on sharing knowledge about making clothes through upcycling and using small fabric scraps. Her two-tone denim top with puff sleeves and sewn-on hearts is a beautiful statement piece and an absolute eye-catcher.

Bags and white jeans by Juliane Diefenbach

Juliane is a fashion designer from Cologne. Upcycling, DIY, and repurposing textiles have been her great passion since childhood. Juliane works as a freelance fashion designer and founded the slow fashion label “twists & turns”, which specializes in sustainable yoga gear and accessories. For our collaboration, she designed two cross-body bags – one gray and one dark blue – and transformed a white STARDUST into a truly special one-of-a-kind piece with elaborate, checkerboard-like woven details.

Jeans with unusual dyeing techniques by Taylor Teutsch

Cyanotype, dyeing with natural materials, and sewing are the passions of designer Taylor, who currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. She firmly believes that creating unique pieces is important for the future of the fashion industry. The more clothing is made directly for an individual, the greater the chance that it will not end up in a landfill, but will instead stay in the closet as long as possible because it is valued. Taylor dyed a white STARDUST using various dyeing techniques and created an expressionistic pair of jeans with an absolutely unique design.

Hot pants and slippers by Lala Quail

An unusual pair – that is how Lala describes her combination of denim hot pants and slippers, and that is exactly what it is. Inspired by the idea of breaking the mold, Lala created this denim combination. Lala is a product, web, and graphic designer and upcycler who lives in Berlin. She is passionate about creating sustainable products through playful creativity and making people smile in the process. Her unique shoes and accessories offer an alternative to mass-produced hype culture – like the unusual pair she created from a rejected Dawn pair of jeans.

If you want to learn more about what happens to the jeans that must be rejected during quality control due to minor production flaws, then feel free to visit our Art on Broken Pieces page!
