Anja gives your discarded jeans new life
Hi!
I'm Anja, an 80s kid, mom of two, textile and art student, optimist, and I absolutely cannot imagine a wardrobe without jeans.
How about you?
Honestly, jeans go with everything: sneakers & a shirt, pumps & a shirt, pumps & a blazer, at the beach, in the city, at university, at work, for every occasion and every mood, in every situation in life. They are always with me. And then? What potential is still hidden in the discarded, set-aside trousers? In the jeans I don't really wear anymore?
As part of a university exam on the broad topic of "sustainability", I explored how I could turn these beloved jeans into a new, high-quality product with thoughtful design instead of carelessly disposing of them. Quite the opposite, actually: every piece of denim used reminds me of something that is personally important to me.
This is how my remember concept was born. The centerpiece of this concept is a parka that I made from 25 pairs of jeans, 2 denim shirts, 1 denim jacket, 1 denim skirt, 2 Lyocell trousers, and vintage jacket lining. On the one hand, I used garments of my own that already had a real story to tell, but also Broken Pieces from Dawn Denim.
At Dawn Denim, jeans with minor defects are not carelessly disposed of just because they cannot be sold. They are turned into something special, into a unique piece. That is why they fit perfectly into my concept.
The idea quickly followed to also sew bags as everyday companions from discarded jeans. Every bag is unique due to the individual combination of jeans, and every piece of denim used is also intended to remind you of something important
In any case, existing (denim) resources are utilized optimally. I also use worn and beloved trousers, returns, or Broken Pieces from Dawn Denim for the bags, because Dawn also cares deeply about the responsible treatment of its products, the environment, its employees, and its customers.
And because my remember concept fits so wonderfully with Dawn Denim's philosophy, there is a small, exclusive collection of remember bags—the very first bags 😊. Each of these bags is unique, handmade from existing pairs of jeans, Broken Pieces, and returns. And here too, every piece of denim is intended to remind you of something. What exactly, is up to you to decide.
In this spirit, *remember*
Anja
