WOW MOM you’ve got FemPower!
My name is Lisa Harmann and I don't fit into one box, but into several – for example, the box of a journalist, the box of a woman and the box of a mother. Together with my business partner Katharina Nachtsheim, I run one of Germany's largest parenting blogs, "Stadt Land Mama". It is named so because she lives in the metropolis of Berlin with her family and I live in a large family on a multi-generational farm in the Bergisches Land at the gates of Cologne. Together we have six children, including girls, boys, twins, teenagers, primary school children and kindergarten children. We have dedicated ourselves professionally to womanhood and motherhood because we see so many incredible facets in them.
When Katharina and I met back then on a research trip for our journalism school, we were henceforth known only as the Twins because of our blonde curls. Our paths initially diverged, I had children quite young, my daughter at 24, the twin boys at 26. She was still in the middle of editorial life when I was already juggling diapers and baby food. But our paths crossed again – fortunately
Today, with our blog magazine, we show above all how many different paths of motherhood there are, how much we should form bonds, how little box-thinking helps (not at all!). Because who fits into just one? We are all a whole pharmacy full of boxes, we don't need judgments for that, but openness. For other paths, for self-confidence, for diversity.
Why don't we simply respond to other approaches with an interested "Oh, how exciting, tell me more" instead of a judgmental question mark on our forehead? Why don't we allow much more room, also look behind the facade and at the backpacks that each one of us also carries? Why don't we place much more value on honesty and authenticity?
We asked ourselves these questions when we started writing for women and mothers. Not only in the blog, but also for newspapers and magazines – and ultimately in our books. They are called WOW MOM, because the word Wow is reflected in the word Mom – and vice versa. And because it takes appreciation for what women achieve there: We live FemPower!
In our encouragement books we also show photos of us. Pictures that partly go beyond our boundaries of shame because they are real, unretouched, because they show real life. And because a mother also has dark circles under her eyes sometimes and is annoyed and does not lie around the clock beaming in a white T-shirt with a green health smoothie in her bed and enjoys life. Motherhood includes all emotions – the euphoric ones just as much as the desperate ones. Womanhood, that's everything!
We celebrate this authenticity in our texts. Just as Dawn does in the form of clothing.
Dawn does not judge, Dawn dresses. Dawn does not uniform, Dawn puts the individual strengths of each person in the foreground. And Dawn is also real. Dawn also stands for FemPower. And for the fact that everyone can be (and should be) who they are!
Dawn changes the view of things in the process, just as we do with our texts. We draw attention, but we do not push ourselves. We give food for thought and leave it to the viewer what he or she makes of it.
We want to touch, just as Sofia Holt does with her FemPower Collection. While the first German astronauts are still in training for their flight to the ISS – because yes, actually until 2021 no German woman had ever been in space – Sofia Holt launches a rocket at Dawn. A truly captivating way of femininity. Because she can. Because we can. And because dreams and goals sometimes blur so much that they become reality. She and also the astronauts and the mothers who honestly tell about their lives in our blog show that we can achieve everything if we only want to. That sounds cliché, but we really believe it. Because we live FemPower and feel what it can achieve.
So let's continue to encourage women. Let's break boxes, make each other strong and believe in each other. Then we can reach for the stars. And we should too! Don't you think?
Your Lisa
